Postive Words, Powerful Results, by Hal Urban Facilitator Questions/Thoughts
Discussion Questions: Part One Chapter 1: Have you ever experienced difficulty communicated with someone? What were the barriers? How did you overcome the challenge? Chapter 2: What is the significance of the role of the person who significantly impacted you with positive words? (In other words, was it a parent, a teacher, a professional - and why did that role matter?) Have there been times when positive words have not impacted your life? If so, why do you think they failed? Chapter 3: How can we encourage our colleagues and students to refrain from complaining? Chapter 4: Chapter 5: What are the daily communication choices we have? Part Two Chapter 6: Chapter 7: Recall a time that you received affirming words of praise or encouragement and describe its positive effect on you. What are ways you can reach out and lift up others? Chapter 8: Why is it important to have open communication patterns within a relationship (marriage, friendship, familial, work…) Share an example of something someone said that made your day, and made a difference in your relationship with that person. Where do we learn maladaptive communication patterns? Is it ever too late to employ loving, adaptive patterns? Chapter 9: From whom did you learn about manners and the “golden rule”? Do you feel that manners and the “golden rule” are important in our society today? How do you reinforce the importance of manners and speaking to others with respect with your children, with your students, with your family and friends? What can we do as adults to reinforce the importance of manners and respectful language? How can families and schools partner together to reinforce the importance of respect and civility? Chapter 10: How do you feel about people who make you laugh? Part Three Chapter 11: Chapter 12: Chapter 13: Chapter 14: Part Four Chapter 15: Chapter 16: Part Five Summary & Conclusions
